Makeover Monday: Adding Color to Rhinestones

As I alluded to last Monday, we are back to the season of fashion. I want to use these next three months of Mondays as a chance to re-vamp fashion accessories. Starting today with the simple technique of adding color to old and discolored jewelry. It was so easy to add a pop of color to my hair accessories, I figured jewelry could not be that different.

Here I took a bracelet I had bought at a thrift shop that had a few rhinestones with discoloration and added some pink nail polish to give it a bit more life. This technique was simple and only took one coat of paint.

This broach was a slightly different problem in that 4 of the 6 end rhinestones were actually missing. To fix this problem I added a small glob of nail polish to where the missing rhinestone should have been. I allowed the nail polish to dry and settle into the circle and would then add another small coat. I did this until the area was filled with a smooth bubble of color. There was two rhinestones still on the end which I simply painted over to match the others. A simple way to spruce up old jewelry.

Hey! This is Sara from Beautifully Contained. I just wanted to let you know that I purchased my agate from Joann Fabrics, but I’m willing to bet that any craft store with a decent bead selection would have them too. Happy crafting! 🙂
