I know it is actually Saturday morning that I am posting about Foodie Friday, but I’m hoping for a little grace being as I have had laryngitis all week. I just got my voice back yesterday and I’m still undecided if it was harder to try and talk with a pathetic lack of voice or keeping my mouth shut and not uttering a word for 24 straight hours.
Anyways, onto the real point of this post, FOOD!
That’s my serious game face… |
I’m still super excited about Green Bay’s win last Sunday, so this post is in honor of them! I am not really a football fan in the sense that I never sit down and really watch a whole football game on TV. But I do love competition and growing up I participated with my family in football picks each week from about the 6th grade until I left for college. It started out with just my dad, brother and I, but eventually grew to include not only my mom, but grandparents too. We each had a favorite team and my all time love has always been the Green Bay Packers! Yep, I’m a cheesehead.
In honor of celebrations and the Superbowl party I attended last weekend, here are too cheese centered appetizers, one I made for the party, the other I tried recently.
Brie, Apple & Pomegranate
Loaf of French bread
12 oz brie
1 ripe apple
1/4 cup honey
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Pomegranate seeds
This treat is easy to assemble by just slicing the loaf of bread, adding a liberal helping of brie, slice of apple, a couple of pomegranate seeds, drizzle of honey and the part that I think is most important, freshly ground pepper.
The other concoction I’m into at the moment is Caramelized Pear and Brie Crostini from Judy in her Natural Habitat. I am not a fan of blue cheese, so I decided to skip that and the chives. Thus creating a sweet bite, but with still a balance of savory with the brie.
